Mitsuhiro Okamoto "Batta Mon" Sculptures

Batta Mon exhibit, Osaka, Japan
Mitsuhiro Okamoto "Batta Mon" Sculptures are sculptures made out of knock off designer handbags. Its made to call into question the relationship between imitation and authenticity. A much better use of the materials IMHO. Its always cool to see an artist take one item and creatively utilize it in a completely different way, I think its the same reason why I love to hear a sample used several ways. If you're anywhere near the Kyoto gallery in Osaka, Japan you should make it a point to see these in person. For the rest of us here in the western hemisphere... there's more pics after the jump.

Need To Want Less by Recovering Lazyholic

Need To Want Less by Recovering Lazyholic
I ran across Recovering Lazyholic's flickr page and she had this really fresh "Need To Want Less" photo project. After checking out a few of the pics, I immediately thought that I had to share this on my blog. Her creativity is inspiring and I love the way she is using photography and graphic design to fight something I'm SURE "we all fall prey to bouts of, laziness." These are a few samples of her "Need To Want Less" project that I really identified with. There are plenty more here and also check her site (http://recoveringlazyholic.com/index.html) for more of her artwork. More pics after the jump

Bent Objects: The Secret Life Of Everyday Things by Terry Border

I’ve quickly become a fan of Terry Border’s work. I ran across some of his pictures recently and his imagination is really inspiring. I remember as a kid, believing whole-heartedly that my toys and other household objects came to life when I was asleep, away, or just not looking (Yeah, I love Toy Story for the same reason). Terry's art has basically taken that premise and brought it to life in a unique and creative way.

I look forward to his new work and you should check out his blog bentobjects.blogspot.com. Here’s some more of his work. Enjoy

Street Art: Just Throw It In The Bag

As an artist, I get inspired a lot by other artists. Although my realm is primarily Hip-Hop, there is an underlying theme in art of taking nothing and turning it into something. I ran across this video of Joshua Allen Harris and his street art, and he is doing exactly that. He uses ordinary trash bags, air from the subway, and imagination to literally bring his artwork to life. I’m officially a fan of dude after watching this video and I hope I can get to see some of his work in person.
